Sarkozy, wife have lovers

The French media is retailing rumours that President Nicolas Sarkozy and his glamorous wife Carla Bruni have both been unfaithful, reported the Daily Telegraph newspaper. And such talk is said to be gaining ground.

Bruni-Sarkozy, 43, has allegedly linked up with a musician, Benjamin Biolay, who was a winner at France's recent Victoires de la Musique awards.

He is a mop-haired cutie six years her junior. French Web magazine suchablog.com even claimed Bruni-Sarkozy was a close friend of long standing and was now "unofficially living with him" at his Paris flat.

In a bit of romantic revenge, however, the President, 55, is said to have become amorously involved with Ecology Minister Chantal Jouanno, 40, a French karate champion.

The rumours began with scattered Twitter posts, entered the gossip rags and have since stormed the respectable press. A blog on the website of the Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper declared: "It's the gossip of the moment that could become the story of the year.

"It says the presidential marriage is breathing its last breaths. Carla Bruni is in love with Benjamin Biolay and the President has found solace with Chantal Jouanno."

It is the first time, since Mr Sarkozy and his wife first met in November 2007, that persistent rumours have surfaced in the mainstream press alleging that their marriage could be in peril. They had wed after a whirlwind three-month romance.
