Cable giant airs porn on kids' channels
US cable giant Time Warner was left red faced after accidentally airing pornography on two television channels meant for children.
The company's officials had to apologize for the blunder which they attributed to "equipment failure" after airing Playboy Channel previews on the Kids on Demand and Kids Pre-School on Demand channels, reported New York Daily News.
While the programming menu listed information for children's shows on the left side of the screen, previews of nude women in explicit conversations played on the right side of the screen.
It took technicians two hours to fix the glitch and officials said they weren't sure how many saw the mixed-up programming.
The mistake affected the company's North Carolina markets and parents and viewers reportedly inundated the company with calls about the error.
Time Warner Cable spokesperson Keith Poston apologised saying, "It was a small number of customers. But one's too many. We're very, very sorry it happened.
"We know parents are concerned. I have a 9-year-old. I'm a dad. I'd be concerned too. It was a technical malfunction that caused the wrong previews to be shown on our kids on-demand channels," he added.
Poston pointed out that even Time Warner's robust parental controls would not have blocked the images from viewers who happened upon them on Tuesday.
