5 held for theft at Hema's house - WHAT A SPEEDY RECOVERY


Five persons from Nepal were arrested in connection with the burglary of goods estimated at Rs 80 lakh at the bungalow of Bollywood actor Hema Malini here.

"We have recovered some of the stolen items and are looking out for three more accused who are absconding", joint commissioner of police, Mr Rakesh Maria, said.

Thieves had broken into the bungalow "Gokuldham" on February 28 and decamped with jewellery worth Rs 75 lakh and Rs five lakh cash.

The actor had gone to Nagpur for a programme a day before the robbery and found valuables missing from her cupboard the next day when she returned.

The five arrested are Vinod Sahi, 24, his brother Manoj Sahi, 20, both residents of Pune, Vir Bahadur Batala, 55, a resident of Goregaon, Thapendra Sahi, 20 and Mann Bahadur Sahi 55, both residents of Dombivali in nearby Thane district.

Of them, Vir Bahadur and Mann Bahadur are employed as watchmen in Mumbai.

Vir Bahadur, prime accused and watchman in the same locality, had tipped off that the occupants of the bungalow had gone out. The other arrested accused had helped the offenders in the theft like conducting recee etc, he said.
