THIRTEEN men have been arrested since police launched a major anti-terror raid in a remote region of Indonesia's Aceh province last week, police said on Tuesday.
In an update to reporters, national police spokesman Edward Aritonang said the suspects came from various parts of Indonesia, including the capital, Jakarta.
Reporting the arrests of seven men on Monday, Mr Aritonang said they had possibly been given military training overseas and added that the suspects had been charged with terrorism-related activities.
'We'll provide an update on their roles as investigations are ongoing. There's an indication that they have training abroad,' Mr Aritonang told a news conference, without specifying any countries.
More than 100 heavily armed police took part in the raid last week in a forested part of Aceh Besar, where around 50 militants were said to be conducting military-style training including the use of firearms.
During the raid, police found rifles, Malaysian military uniforms and propaganda material including videos of the 2002 bombings on the Indonesian resort island of Bali which killed more than 200 people. Provincial police chief Aditya Warman previously said the suspects were 'strongly suspected' of being part of regional terror group Jemaah Islamiah, which is blamed for multiple attacks across Indonesia.
