Maran inaugurates handicrafts fair
Chanderi sarees from Madhya Pradesh, iron mouldings of tribal culture from Chhattisgarh, artefacts on seashells from Andaman and Nicobar Islands and phulkari dresses from Punjab are the special attractions at the Gandhi Shilp Bazaar-2010, which begin at the Valluvar Kottam on Monday.
Inaugurated by the Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran, the mega handicrafts exhibition is providing an opportunity for art loving people of the city to have a glimpse of all national crafts under one roof.
Maran said the main objective of such a mega event was to invite the artisans from all over the country to arrange for a direct market linkage between them and art loving public.
He also announced that the week-long shilp bazaar would be conducted across selected cities in the country throughout the year. More than 150 master craft persons including national and state awardees, SHGs selected are taking part in the exhibition.
