Here's a new entrant in the glamour world of Sandalwood.

Nikii, a Gladrags supermodel, is debuting in the Kannada film industry with ‘Mandahasa’.

The film is being directed by Rajesh Nair while Basava Reddy is the producer.

When asked what made her select Sandalwood as the launching pad for her film career, Nikii said, “I thought that Sandalwood is the right place for me. I know that many famous heroines, like Deepika Padukone, is from Sandalwood and many heroines such as Shilpa Shetty, Sonali Bendre and others have also acted in Kannada films.” The young actress from Mumbai was at her witty best while chatting with Expresso at Hotel Capital recently. She said that her father is an interior designer and that her mother is a homemaker.

“Though I hail from a traditional family, my parents never objected to my entering the film industry,” Nikii said with a smile.

Nikii, who got the title of Gladrags model in 2005, also claims to have been part of the Kingfisher calendar in 2007. “I have also been part of the small screen and done various TV commercials and ad campaigns for brands such as Spykar Jeans, Baggana, Globus, Bombay Dyeing, Paaneri Sarees, Taraash Jewellery and more.” About how she got a chance in the Kannada film, she said, “Producer Basava Reddy happened to see a hoarding that had my photographs. It was an advertisement for a jewellery company. He was impressed by my photo and contacted me through one of my well wishers.

I agreed to act in this film because its script is fantastic,” Nikii said enthusiastically.

How does Nikii manage with Kannada dialogues? “I have no problem with Kannada dialogues.

I am making sincere efforts to learn the language.

Now, I can understand Kannada dialogues,” she said, adding that she would like act in films of many languages.

Producer Basava Reddy also expressed his happiness about selecting the right actress for the right role. “Nikii is very intelligent. She has the ability to grasp the meaning of Kannada dialogues. She is acting in the film like an experienced actress,” Basava Reddy said.
