Ilayaraja gets Padma Bhushan

Acclaimed music composer Maestro Ilayaraja has been selected for the honour of Padma Bhushan.
Speaking to the media from his residence in the city, the maestro said, “I am extremely delighted. I won’t say that I have received it late. It will come when it has to come”. When asked about how he feels about his peer A.R. Rahman, who has also been conferred with Padma Bhushan, he was quick to react, “I can only speak for myself”.
About a query on whether south is overshadowed while considering for awards, the veteran promptly said, “You should ask this to the politicians and not to me”.
