New library in Serangoon

IN ABOUT a year's time, Serangoon residents will have a brand-new public library.

The library, which will be located at the top level of a shopping mall linked to Serangoon Bus Interchange - is the National Library Board (NLB)'s first new library in more than three years and will be the latest to join its current network of 22 public libraries.

The library, spread over a floor area of about 17,000 square feet - the typical size for mall libraries - will have a start-up collection of about 150,000 volumes of books, magazines and audio-visual materials. NLB is in the process of confirming the collection.

Said NLB's chief executive N Varaprasad on Wednesday: 'NLB is constantly looking for opportunities where our public libraries can serve as social spaces for users to learn, interact and bond together.

'I am sure Serangoon Public Library...will be a draw to residents of all age groups and with different needs.'
