Man saved just as he was about to jump off building

Even an ang pow could not lure a man, who was standing on the 11th floor ledge of a building in Kota Kinabalu, to get back to safety. When he was about to jump, a fireman managed to grab him and saved his life.

The unidentified man, who is believed to be a former employee of an airline company, had apparently complained about financial, work and family problems.

At one point in the saga that began at about 3.15pm yesterday, the building managers even offered him an ang pow to coax him back into the building but he refused and instead asked for time for him to "relax".

A security guard at an adjacent building Yahya Talib said he spotted the man on the ledge and immediately alerted the building's security to call the fire brigade as he rushed over to try to coax the man to get off the ledge.

"Luckily, the fireman managed to grab him just as he attempted to jump," said Yahya, who sustained minor cuts from the broken window pane when helping the fireman pull the man back into the building.

The man was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be treated for minor cuts.
