This year will be full of comedies for Konkona

This year will be full of light-hearted stories and comedies for Konkona Sen Sharma, the actress who is usually known for her serious and experimental work. The soon-to-be-released Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge on March 5 will be followed by Vinay Shukla’s Mirch in April, which she calls a sassy drama. Also in April will be Sunglass, a film that is directed by Rituparno Ghosh and will release in Bengali and Hindi, “It’s a humorous film where once I wear the sunglasses, I will be able to know what the people around me are thinking,” she reveals. With all the comedies coming up this year, the actress is sure she’ll get the much-needed image makeover.

Though it is her roles in parallel and experimental cinema that first brought her under the limelight, Sen Sharma maintains that she does not give that genre a preference. “People have this notion that anything that is parallel cinema will be good. They come to me with scripts and expect me to take up anything that they label as non-commercial. While I fully support the cause of small budget films and experimental ideas, I can’t do any generic role. I need something to excite me.”
