Woman bathes and does laundry at public hot spring

The woman, in her 40s, would visit the Sembawang Hot Spring four times a week to do her laundry and take her bath.

Obviously, she had overlooked the sign reminding the public not to do their washing there.

The woman would hang out her clothes and wait for them to dry, according to residents nearby who frequent the hot spring.

She usually spends about three hours there, the residents said.

Approached by Lianhe Wanbao's reporter on Monday, the woman said she is a Chinese citizen living in Woodlands.

"I have to take a 15-minute bus ride to come here.

"Hot spring-bathing is very expensive in China, about S$10 (RM24) per visit. Since this is free, might as well I use it," she said.

During the interview, the reporter observed that the woman had taken her bath and hung out her clothes, bedsheet and brassieres on the fence.

The woman explained that she was merely sterilising the clothing with the spring water that contains sulphur.

Liang Ji, 66, a worker at the hot spring, said some people would also boil eggs and use the spring water to wash their vehicles' number plates.
