The Telangana Congress leaders announced that they were moving away from the Telangana JAC and forming their own committee to achieve statehood.
On Friday, almost all the important Congress functionaries from Telangana, including ministers, legislators, MPs, zilla parishad chairmen and others met in the Assembly committee hall and discussed the issue. Most of them decided that the Congress should take the lead in this agitation and take credit for the formation of Telangana and not the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao. After much deliberation, the meeting resolved to form the Telangana Congress Action Committee and take the agitation in a peaceful manner till a separate state is achieved.
The meeting asked students to immediately call off their Assembly siege on Saturday. The meeting took note of the attacks by ABVP and TRS activists on the houses and properties of Congress leaders and warned them that there may be backlash from Congress workers if the attacks continued.
The meeting also asked the state government to punish police officers who indulged in excesses against media personnel and students in the lathicharge at OU.
Speaking to newsmen, Congress leaders, Dr J. Geeta Reddy, Mr K. Jana Reddy, Mr Ponnam Prabhakar and Mr Manda Jagannadham said there was no need to submit resignations since the Congress is committed to a separate Telangana.
